NorthWest MogFest 2022

Hello to all,
Time flies! We are just a few months before the start of Northwest MogFest 2022 (August 18th-21st). This year’s theme is “It’s a Zoo” so remember to wear your finest leopard print outfit, fursuit, donkey costume, or whatever else floats your boat for MogFest shenanigans.

On the farm we will offer the standard driving, socializing, driving, swimming and driving along with the axe throwing and back hoe competitions. Yoga will be offered daily. There will also be at least one kids parade, a petting zoo (!) and certainly some other stuff to keep you entertained. Reminder: costumes or fancy dress are always appropriate, especially Friday and Saturday night!

Our friends who host the Descend On Bend/Descend On Lost Sierra events will be serving a meal on Saturday. They are FANTASTIC cooks!

An MVPA convoy will be in the area Saturday and they have been invited out to the farm, so we might see some interesting new arrivals. Also the McMinnville Airshow will be going on nearby (as if MogFest was not enough!)

Pack in/Pack out. We are not going to be collecting cans and bottle for recycling nor will we be hauling mountains of trash. We will continue to have ample toilet and shower facilities.

NorthWest MogFest 2021

Hello to all,
Well…it looks like we made it! Just a bit over two months before the start of Northwest MogFest 2021 (August 19th-22nd).

Our website is in the process of its annual update and the RSVP page should be going live very soon. We are anticipating large numbers of Unimogs, Pinzgauers, Haflingers, Volvo TGBs, Land Rovers, VW Syncros, MB 4×4 vans and large trucks to name but a few. After last year’s “MogFest Lite” Waldersee Farmily Reunion, we have decided to make some changes from the pattern we used for 2000-2019.

No in-house food service run by Boy Scout leaders. There may be some food/coffee/lemonade vendors but recommendation will be to plan for dining on your own. There is the possibility that our friends who host the Descend On Bend/Descend On Lost Sierra events will be serving at least one meal. They are FANTASTIC cooks!

Pack in/Pack out. We are not going to be collecting cans and bottle for recycling nor will we be hauling mountains of trash. We will continue to have ample toilet and shower facilities.

Fire season will be in full effect so travel into remote OHV areas may or may not be possible. I am exploring the possibility of a large group drive via back roads to a significant abandoned historical military site on National Forest lands. Again, a lot will depend on access.

On the farm itself, we will offer the standard driving, socializing, driving, swimming and driving along with the axe throwing and back hoe competitions. Yoga will be offered daily. We are also considering a kid’s electric/pedal car parade, RC car parade and drone races. And who knows…there may be some professional musicians gracing us with their talents.

In short, it should be a very fun time.

NorthWest MogFest 2020 Cancelled

Hello to all… It is with a great deal of reservation and disappointment that we announce the cancellation of our 21st annual Northwest MogFest gathering this year. Given the Oregon governor’s continued stance on large group activities, it appears it will take a miracle to allow us to open our arms, our hearts and our property to the extent we have for the previous two decades.

All is not completely hopeless. Our dates for 2021 are: August 19th-22nd.

We have recently revamped our website and will post updates here, you can alos check the NWMF Facebook page for updates. We will hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

 The Waldersee Farm/NWMF Family

NorthWest MogFest 2020

At the start of NWMF 2019, Zach Gray recommended we set the theme for NWMF 2020 as “The Oregon Trail…and then you die of dysentery.” His choice could not have been more timely given all the changes that 2020 has brought thus far and continues to bring. Change has certainly occurred that none could have predicted a year ago. The dates for this year’s NWMF event are August 13th-16th. That is just under four months away. There will be some changes this year but you can count on Emilie and I as well as our immediate family being on the farm those four days…and more. From the very first NWMF event in 2000, I have referred to our gathering as a family reunion and not just a vehicle-centric truck event. That still holds true now more than ever and we, as a family, are VERY strong. Family is always welcome…even if those family members live on other parts of the globe…even if those family members have not been on the farm for a while…even if they have never set foot on Waldersee Farm…yet.

Earlier this year, Marvin Bernards and his crew finished planting the last of 14,000 hazelnut trees that cover 80% of Waldersee Farm. Those who come to the farm this year will be asked to take a good long look at the scope of that planting. Then take pause knowing that each of those trees represents the lost of 2-4 individuals making the trek from Missouri to Oregon over a twenty-five year span. We are here on this original farmstead because brave people chose to transplant themselves from points east to a land of promise far away. The two words that resonate in my mind when I think of the Oregon Trail are Self-reliance and Self-determination. And to think these brave souls did so during a global cholera pandemic. This brings me to the first major change for NWMF 2020.

Harry Cooley and the Boy Scouts will NOT be serving the five meals that they did in years past. The kitchen is closed. Think Oregon Trail. You will be asked to provide for your own food and drink needs. going basic or being very creative is up to you. There are also restaurants in the area and one would think those will re-open within the next four months. We have reserved more than enough chem toilets although they may require social distancing instead of being side-by-side as in years past. Beyond these points, I guess we will just have to what and see what develops. Adaptability and resourceful innovation is key. Personally, I am VERY optimistic for a fun “family”reunion” this August.
